John Proctor – the real victim

John Proctor is the real victim in this story, not Abby.  Sure, he was wrong to have the affair especially when she was young, but having an affair involves two people, not one.  She likes to think of herself as the victim and make Proctor the scapegoat instead of facing the fact that she was in the wrong too.  Abigail keeps living in the past.  She doesn’t want to move on or let Proctor move on either.  She can’t accept that she and Proctor will never be able to continue with their relationship.  John wants to leave the past in the past and try to move forward.  He wants to rebuild his marriage and show devotion to his wife, but Abby refuses to let him do that.

If that wasn’t enough to officially classify Proctor as the victim, there’s more.  Abby even drank a “potion” to kill Elizabeth Proctor.  She even stuck the needle into the poppet to frame Elizabeth Proctor as a witch.  She will stop at nothing to keep her fairytale alive.  She needs to move on and stop trying to ruin everybody else’s lives.
